Our Young Writers’ Awards are gearing up this spring and we’re kicking off the competition in style! Students all across the Dallas/Fort Worth area will be submitting 500 word short stories to be reviewed by our celebrity author Tani Lamb, with the winner of the competition getting $500 of books for their school and a Kindle Fire HD to keep your child’s literary passion burning. At our kickoff events, we will be joined by a panel of writing experts including Tani Lamb, Laney Nielson, and our own curriculum experts to discuss writing as it relates to upcoming standardized testing, creative expression, and beyond.

Free Skills-Based Creative Writing Workshop

Both nights from 6-8pm there’s a lot in store for parents and kids alike that will leave you confident in your child’s writing, ready to enter the competition with a solid advantage, and informed about the many ways you can use reading and writing to expand your child’s imagination and life opportunity.

The first hour will be a story writing workshop, introducing children to this year’s theme of “Heroes” and helping them to start planning their entry. This workshop will be the same as the complimentary workshop schools all across Dallas/Fort Worth will enjoy.

Panel Discussion- Tani Lamb

The second hour of the evening, Explore Horizons will be joined by a panel of experts below including our own curriculum masters to open discussion about creative writing as a practice for unlocking your child’s potential.

We are extremely lucky to have Tani Lamb as the judge for our 2018 Young Writer’s Awards competition. As a Kentucky native living in Dallas who has recently completed a nationwide book tour, Tani is the perfect choice for our writing competition.

In her recent children’s book, T Sees An Island, Tani has infused her writing with an imaginative and exploratory mindset .”What I like most about travel, and what I also highlight in the books, is that people are people everywhere you go,” says Lamb. “Travel is a big part of my life. I’ve been to over 40 countries, and I know how it’s enhanced my life. I wanted to reach out to the little children between the ages of five and nine and show them a little about travel so they might develop an interest for it later in their life.”

Lamb will be at the Alliance Town Center and Frisco Launch Events on Tuesday January 16th, 2018 and Wednesday January 17th, 2018.
